Vegging out at 新佛界

After Monday’s soup kitchen session. A few of us went to 新佛界, new fut Kai restaurant for dinner. 2 reasons -1) farewell dinner to Sean as he makes his way to Austria. 2) support this wonderful veg restaurant for giving us a discounted rate for the bee Hoon for Soup Kitchen.

Also, seeing the ‘for sale sign’, I wanna do my bit to help. It will be sad to see them go. The food is reasonably priced and delicious. Each of us paid around – $15 for this wonderful spread. The veg sharks fin soup is very nice. (comfort food for Ted:) and best part, no sharks were harmed.

Do support them.

Oh, yes – new face, Fred joined us.

OutPost 11: Atelier Rakyat en plein air @ Bukit Brown Family Day

Sun (11 March 2012),
OutPost 11: Atelier Rakyat en plein air @ Bukit Brown Family Day
Bukit Brown Roundabout, 9am-1pm

Atelier Rakyat is the people’s art workshop which allow people to make art for the people and seen by the people.

An on-going project by Post-Museum inviting the people to make art which would visualise the world around them and through it visualise the future which they wish for.

As part of Bukit Brown Family day, Atelier Rakyat will be going painting en plein air (in open air) at the beautiful Bukit Brown. We will be providing paint, canvases and paper to the people to make art about Bukit Brown. MPs, Civil Society and many individuals have debated furiously about the need to preserve Bukit Brown. Let your art add to the dialogue and hopefully visualise a new future and save Bukit Brown. Anything is possible when you visualise creatively. That is the power of art – it can give hope and liberate minds.

En plein air is a french expression which means ‘in open air’. It was used describe the act of painting outdoors, which is also called peinture sur le motif (‘painting on the ground’) in French. The Impressionists (1865-1885) were the radicals in their time who preferred to work in natural light and hence painting en plein air became particularly important to them. If you think that Impressionist art was made a long time ago (147 years) and is incredibly rich in heritage. Bukit Brown is much older (176 years) as the earliest burial is 1836 so that would be around the late Romantism period.

OutPost 10: Niven Haven Open Studio

OutPost 10: Niven Haven Open Studio

Sat (10 March 2012)
30 Niven Road, 2-9pm

Over the last few months, you have probably heard about our studio musing, paintings, meeting, talks and gatherings.

All thanks to our friend Chris for accomadating Post-Museum’s studio space in his living room. Also thanks to his house mates for sharing the same space, fridge and kitchen.

So we nicknamed the place, “Niven Haven” because we had lots of fun being there feeling free to create artworks and had lots of important Bukit Brown meetings. We have reached the end of temporal occupancy of Niven Haven and decided to hold an “Open Studio”. Another reason for us to meet friends, engage in free flow discussion and showcase some artworks made here (complete and incomplete).

These will include the: Atelier Rakyat, Save Bukit Brown drawings and a silk screen piece. So bring a T-Shirt to make silk screen if you want.

As usual, there will be some fairtrade coffee and drinking chocolate for your consumption. For Food – please buy some delicious pizza slices (veg/non-veg start from $5) from SLICE (@POMO mall) just around the corner of Niven Haven.

* Artworks and merchandise sold will go into supporting the Post-Museum Cultural Capital.
